Metal

METALOur project began with trips to nearby building sites (such as the University’s new building, ‘The Diamond’), other departments (Mechanical and Electrical Engineering) and to bike shops, in search for materials to experiment with.  It soon became clear that the majority of the metal available to us was steel, one which tends to be strong in tension.  Bicycle parts such as gears, chain and brake cable were also easy to get hold of and so came about the idea of a kinetic sculpture that would be interactive, thus sparking curiosity and conversation.
